Found immobile and bleeding, likely the victim of a hit-and-run, she was in critical condition with multiple pelvic fractures and a severe blood infection. Immediate medical intervention stabilized her, and a comprehensive treatment plan, including surgery to mend her pelvis and medications to combat infection, set her on the path to recovery.​

Initially fearful and untrusting, Pepe’s spirit gradually revived through months of dedicated care. Her eyes, once clouded with fear, began to shine with hope as she tentatively explored her surroundings. Following surgery, she regained mobility, progressing from tentative steps to joyful runs. Transferred to a foster home in Pavia, Italy, Pepe continued her rehabilitation, blossoming into a spirited and healthy dog. Her transformation was so profound that she became nearly unrecognizable from the lifeless pup first rescued.​
